It must first be understood that intercession is not mans idea but God’s idea.
“This is what God made us for, and he has given us the Spirit to be a guarantee for this new life.” 2 Cor. 5:5 NCV
As children of God you have been given the Holy Spirit. And the Holy Spirit dwells in us and daily washes us through regeneration and sanctification (Titus 3:4-7). He teaches us daily as we allow Him and reminds us while testifying of Christ (John 14: ). It is the Holy Spirit who begins to instill within us His unction or anointing (1 John 2:20). With this unction, the scripture declares we can know all things (1 John 2:20). However, this knowledge is not an all-sufficient knowledge. God alone is Omniscient {a.k.a all-knowing}. This knowledge or anointing has its dependency upon the person of the Holy Spirit (and just as it has taught you, abide ye in Him (1 John 2:27)).
Anointed Intercession then demands for the intercessor to be in concert with the Holy Spirit. As we begin to intercede, the Holy Spirit within us expresses, by means of varying manifestations, through us the will of the Father. The Apostle Paul said “And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays [through] us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.” (Romans 8:26 NLV) Cindy Jacobs is quoted as saying “We cannot pray the heart of God fully without joining in His expression”. It is only through these divine expressions that we can fulfill the heart of God for His people, and this can only be accomplished through the Holy Spirit.
The anointing of the Holy Spirit can be released through preaching, teaching, singing, praying, prophetic utterances . All of these flow out of one’s mouth (see 2 Peter 1:21). For the Holy Spirit to be released over your life all one needs to do is “open wide your mouth” and let Him fill it (Ps. 81:10). The Holy Spirit can fill our mouths with words of wisdom, knowledge, understanding, revelation, and the like. These words can be through natural language or even language of tongues. Spirit-Anointed intercession allows for the Spirit to speak what He wills from the Father (“He who has an ear to hear let him hear what the Spirit is SAYING”Rev. 2:7). The words of the Spirit through the intercessor can bring comfort (Acts 9:31), help (Rom. 8:26), strength (Eph. 3:16), joy (1 Thess. 1:6), freedom (2 Cor 3:17), unto the person being interceded for. By Spirit-anointed intercessory prayer transformation for the interceded can take place (2 Cor 3:18) and personal hindering demons can be cast out (Matt 12:28).
Intercession is God’s idea for His people, the Church, and through the Holy Spirit given us is made effective and powerful for ministry; both for the intercessor and the interceded. “Tremendous power is made available through a good man’s earnest prayer.” (James 5:16b Phillips)
