As you read today notice how important the atonement was for the jews. Without it even those in Gods service were being killed. This atonement is still so important to the Jews that the festival for the Day of Atonement is considered one of the most essential and crucial feasts for all Jews to attend and participate in. The blood of the goats are no longer required as Christ Jesus became our atonement sacrifice “once and for all” when he went to the Cross. He became for us our “scapegoat” for our sins.
In the next section of reading notice how the Lord required an account of how the cities and nations and its people were doing of the watchmen. This is reiterated with the prophet Ezekiel who called to be a watchman for the Lord. God told him that as a watchman if he did not warn the people of coming judgement than their blood was on his hands. As spiritual watchmen today, God is calling out to us asking us to give an account of our city. How is your city doing? Is their more lost than saved in it? Their blood is on our hands if we do not adamantly declare “repent, for the day of the lord is at hand”.
