Todays reading seems to intertwine so beautifully in speaking about the anointing. Starting with Leviticus 8 we see the ordination of the priests, both of Aaron and his sons. This ordination service was the first of its kind and with it God was establishing a precipice for the future calling forth of His people into service. It begins with the blood covering. Aarons blood covering came from a ram but for us today it comes from the blood of Christ. This blood covering was placed on the ear, the hand, and the foot; the ear for the hearing, what man receives into his heart, the hand for the work man sets out to accomplish, and the foot for the direction man walks in. After the blood covering, then the oil was placed on these same three places in representation of the anointing.
As we moved into Isaiah 6 we see another place where we need Gods anointing, our lips. Isaiah could not speak the words of God without his lips being touched with the coal from heavens altar. We need Gods anointing in this area of our lives otherwise we are just blowing hot air.
Then in 2 Corinthians 3 we read about becoming ministers of the Spirit and not just the letter. Not only do we need Gods anointing on our hearing and our hands for doings and our feet for walking and on our lips for speaking but we also desperately need the anointing of the Holy Ghost. This last anointing must not be optional but instead crucial especially in this last days harvest field, “for where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom”.
