The Christian world has been buzzing today over the loss of a great pentecostal faith preacher; R.W. Schambach. I unfortunately have never had the great priviledge of hearing him in person. I have though listened to him on recordings and watched him many times on TV. A powerful preacher who ministered in the power of the Holy Ghost and believed in signs and wonders following the Word.
One thing that Rev. Schambach was known for was his tent revivals. His mentor A.A. Allen was one of the forerunners for pentecostal preaching under huge big tents that could seat thousands. Where A.A. Allen would go more into the outlining country areas to set up his tents, Rev. Schambach was ready to bring the pentecostal message under the tent to the urban cities, right down to the ghettos and places others wouldn’t even dare to go. One time he brought his huge tent and set it up in the middle of the bronx in New York City.
My early years in ministry were formed by the preaching of these men. Loving the idea of preaching the Word in the open air, I have patterned the ‘under the tent’ strategy for revivals conducted under my pastoralship from the tent revivals of men like R.W. Schambach. Having done 2 tent revivals so far at Bethesda Church of God and planning another one for this summer, we will remember those whose ministries have forged this vision before us.
Rest in Gods grace Rev. Schambach and know that your vision is still moving forward!
