ESV – The Bible translation I primarily use

English: ESV Study Bible Hardcover Cover

People often ask me which translation of the Holy Bible do I use. To answer that question I usually respond with ‘all of them’. Not meaning that I have read or continually read all the translations, but that in my studies I will often times use more than one translation for comparison, understanding, etc. I have in my office many translations such as the KJV, NIV, NRSV, ESV, MSG, TLB, NCV, NASB, NKJV, and probably a few others I can’t remember now. I have, though, found myself particularly using in church for preaching and bible study the ESV (English Standard Version) more than the others. In fact, the ESV is my primary translation for preaching and teaching. I enjoy the word-for-word translating over a thought-for-thought rendering like with the NIV, the Message, and others. Yet, the ESV is easy to read and very clear in understanding.

Here is a video from Crossway Publishing about the ESV Bible.
