State of the Union – Investment or Grace

Barack Obama, during the 2010 State Of The Uni...

After listening to President Obama’s State of the Union address last night I heard the word investment a lot. It is clear that our Presidents ideology on investment is spending money and lots of it. Now don’t get me wrong, I agree with investing into the education of our children and in innovation and small business; I am not sure just throwing money at it like we did with the stimulus bill is the right way to go about it. To be honest, after listening to the speech, I was quite discomforted and discouraged with the prospect of where our country is heading. All I could see in my spirit was a country with no hope because of the oppression of big beauracratic government, a people with no freedom due to the tremendous financial struggles placed upon the individual and families, and a place of no strength from the slow but sure dismantling of the country’s military forces and might. I went to prayer with this in my spirit.

Now, I believe that God that is in complete control as He is sovereign and supreme. And I believe that we are living near the time of the end. Therefore, all things that are happening now are going to happen as they were planned from the beginning. God, in His sovereignty, is working all these events in preparation for the day of the Great Assembly, the gathering of the Saints, when the trump of God shall sound and we will be with Christ. Moreover, as I was in prayer I felt the Lord say to me “Wait on Me”. I then read today, Psalm 27. At the end of this Psalm David wrote:

I believethat I shall look uponthe goodness of the LORD in the land of the living!
Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!

When trouble was in the land, David believed that he would see the goodness of the Lord despite what was happening around him. In fact, the King James version of this verse specifies that David would have fainted unless he believed this very truth. That’s how bad it was for David in his land. I was not at the point of fainting but I was deeply troubled after our Presidents speech. I am reminded of the promise that Paul made when he said: “And we know that for those who love God all things work togetherfor good, forthose who are called according to his purpose.” Rom. 8:28. I have no need to fear or worry for “surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life” Psalm 23:6.

So, while Washington does what Washington does, I feel the Lord saying “wait on me, be strong and take courage, wait on me and my goodness”. And to sum it up, here is the promise of the Lord for those who will wait: “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary they shall walk and not faint”. Do not be worried about your tomorrows or the future of this land. Wait on the Lord and believe, and we shall see His goodness and mercy come. So, be strong, take courage, and look up.
